Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley. – Theodore Roethke
I have a love-hate relationship with hiking. I love the views at the top, but the work in getting there can be hard. Recently, I did a hike near Mt. Rainier where I could see people at the top of our destination, but I could not see the path. It looked far away and I was unsure the path we would use or how long it would take. Our path took us over large rocks and boulders, across a river, upon solid ground and loose rocks, through a snow patch, and along an exposed edge. We saw mountain goats and wildflowers, passed hikers, were passed by hikers, and took in beautiful views as well.
It’s easy for me to connect these experiences to life. Mountain highs, valley lows. At times we are unable to see the path or our view is obscured, we move forward whether on solid or sometimes unsteady ground, and must overcome different obstacles along the way. Navigating our way through life along can feel daunting, exhausting, and lonely. Whether trying to figure out the balance of work/school and personal life, working through the weeds of parenting, wanting support for your teenager, or just generally feeling not like yourself, we all need support at times along the way.
Each of us has a unique way of processing and dealing with our experiences and feelings. Perhaps you have been in counseling before or maybe this is your first time seeking support. We are all on our own journey. Some are ahead of us, some are behind us, some are on a descent, and some are on the mountain top. Wherever you are, it is okay. In our work together, we will increase your insight into what you are experiencing, implement new strategies, and identify new cognitions to lesson the depressive, anxious, and other symptoms that may be impacting your life.
